A stay at the Woodland Village Lodges LEGOLAND Windsor REVIEW

We were one of the first families to stay at the Woodland Village Lodges at LEGOLAND Windsor when the lodges opened in late May 2024. They are a great and more affordable accommodation option for an overnight stay at the theme park. On-site, there is also the Club-site restaurant and bar, plus plenty of play areas to keep your kids entertained.

Where is the theme park in relation to the Woodland Village?

The Woodland Village at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort is located at the bottom end of car park C at the LEGOLAND theme park. Best price tickets are available online in advance through their website. The village is a 5-minute walk from the theme park’s main entrance. The car park was a little hard to find as we arrived before anyone was directing people on where to park. Once we spotted the woodland lodge reception, it was easy to figure out. As mentioned above, a round of Adventure Golf is included; this can be found near the theme park entrance.

Check-in at the Woodland Village is from 4 p.m. Reception is in the first building you come to from the car park. It’s worth filling in all your booking information via the email they send you before you arrive, as then you get to use the tablets to check in. These were fun to use, and my 10-year-old son enjoyed helping. I was amazed at how it dispensed our wooden room key cards. There was a handy map to collect, and our cabin number was displayed on screen for us, which we quickly jotted down.

All the lodges are set out in what is essentially a number of cul-de-sacs. Each one has a LEGO character with a sign for the lodge numbers. We loved the theming of these, and of course, there were plenty of fun LEGO figures dotted around.

A look around our standard lodge

We were staying in a Woodland Standard lodge, the more affordable of the on-site lodges, which was easy to find. The Woodland Village has the first operationally carbon-neutral accommodation built by LEGOLAND Windsor. Which is slightly ironic as it is underneath a flight path for Heathrow. The planes were luckily not a noise issue for us overnight.

We had a small decked area with a table and four chairs. It’s worth knowing that you can’t seat four people at the four chairs around the table, as there isn’t enough room. The decks are perfect for adults, as you can sit and watch your kids play, as each cul-de-sac has a play area.

Once through the front door, there is the main bedroom. This has a double bed, a large flat-screen TV, a fridge, a kettle and more. There is then a door to the shower room, and next to this, there is the kids’ bedroom area, which is separated by a curtain. Inside the kids’ room, there is another flat-screen TV, a bunk bed that can sleep two children and a trundle bed underneath to sleep a third child. Plus, there is a brickpit and a really novel ambient light that kids can change the ‘mood’ of. We all loved the theming of the rooms.

What I hadn’t realised is that all the lodges are semi-detached, meaning you will have a neighbour. This is a bit of a shame, as noise could sometimes be an issue. When we were sitting out on our decking, we could hear every word of the two ladies next door. Luckily, once inside, we couldn’t hear any noise from them or the kids. The only thing we experienced was a slight vibration in the floor as they walked around.

Other accommodation options at the Woodland Village LEGOLAND

You can upgrade your stay to a Premium Woodland Lodge. These are also still semi-detached, but they provide you with a lot more room. Honestly, though, it’s just one night, so the regular lodges are perfectly adequate. With a premium woodland lodge, you can, however, sleep up to 7 people across two floors.

For a super budget option, you can also stay in a Woodland Barrel. These sleep up to 4 people, and your facilities are at a nearby shower and toilet block.

The Clubhouse Bar and Restaurant

In the same building as the reception area, there is a shop and some toilets. From here, you will find the Clubhouse Bar and Restaurant. This is a large room with a bar area next to a stage area, plus plenty of seating for diners. Outside, there is a decked area with a few tables and chairs. This is where the larger outdoor play area is situated. This is perfect for kids to run around and let off some steam while you’re waiting for dinner to arrive.

What is included in the breakfast at the Woodland Village?

Breakfast is included with all stays at the Woodland Village LEGOLAND Windsor. This includes a choice of fruit and pastries plus juices, tea and freshly brewed coffee. Premium hot drinks, such as lattes and hot chocolate, have an additional charge. Also included are two hot food options, which you order at your table, and they are then brought out to you.

My husband and I ordered the Adult Rangers Clubhouse Breakfast with pork sausage, grilled bacon, hash brown, grilled tomato, mushroom, scrambled or fried egg and white or brown toast. You can make this vegetarian.

It was adequate, but little things like the fried egg being overcooked, the beans being a tiny serving, and the sausage being very basic made it feel a bit ‘stingy’. The juices were also very ‘budget’, which is a pet hate of ours. For the price you pay, it should be higher-quality products.

Our son chose the Adult Ranger Pancakes. These are a stack of 3 pancakes served with streaky bacon, berries and maple syrup. He’s very fussy and said the pancakes were too floury and stodgy, the 1 piece of bacon was a bit stingy, and there wasn’t enough syrup. He loved the pastries, though.

Make sure you pre-book your timeslot in advance for your breakfast to avoid disappointment.

Dinner at the Woodland Village LEGOLAND Windsor

Dinner is not included at the Woodland Village. If you want to eat there, you will need to book in advance. We were sitting in the bar area before dinner, and we heard three families being turned away because they were fully booked.

The food, as you would expect from a Merlin theme park, is expensive. The children’s menu for ages 3-12 is £22.50 for 2 courses and £24.50 for 3 courses. Our son opted for the Tasty garlic sticks and the Junior Legoland Ranger Burger. He enjoyed both plates of food.

My husband and I chose to also have a starter and a main course. The starters were priced around £8-8.50 and the mains from £18 for a vegetarian dish up to £36 for a ribeye steak. Pizzas were priced around £16-18. He opted for the Tasty Fritters as a starter, and I opted for the Woodland salad. Both were quite small portions considering the price, but they were pleasant enough.

For our mains, I opted for the adult portion of the LEGOLAND Ranger burger, which was delicious. My husband pushed the boat out and opted for the Ribeye steak. He enjoyed it but was a little disappointed with the price. We had wanted a dessert, but after being ignored for over 15 minutes, we gave up.

Breakfast is served from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., while dinner sittings are available from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

Keeping the kids entertained

As mentioned above, an overnight stay includes a round of Adventure Golf. This needs to be pre-booked online in advance as timeslots can go quickly – especially the 9 a.m. time slots. This is the world’s first LEGO®-themed indoor golf experience and it is great for families. We decided to book for 9 a.m., which worked out perfectly for queueing for the theme park before it opened around 9:45 a.m.

There are four courses to choose from: Space, LEGO City, Medieval Village and Pirates. Each course has 9 holes, and we played the Medieval village course. When we had finished, we were offered another round for free. I don’t know if this is normal, but we declined as we had a queue to join.

In your room, there is a free gift for the kids. We didn’t spend a lot of time in our room, which meant we never read the kids’ welcome letter. Had we done we’d have discovered that had our son answered the clues, he’d have uncovered the code for the safe in the kids’ room, where he would have found an activity book, flag, free LEGO kit and badge. Whoops! I haven’t told him he missed out on this, as he’d be so disappointed. I wish someone had pointed it out to us!

There are plenty of play areas dotted around the site, plus the play area up near the bar and restaurant. Also in your room, there is an AR experience. Plants and animals transform your lodge into a woodland haven in augmented reality. You will need to download the App to get this to work.

In the evenings, there is entertainment in the bar area for the kids. This was more aimed at younger children with meet and greets, plus we saw a dancing session, and I believe there are sing-alongs. The entertainment was not continuous.

Our final thoughts

We all agreed that we enjoyed our stay and that, despite a few niggles the accommodation was more than adequate for a one-night stay. The theming is excellent, and that goes for the site in general, not just our room.

There are wildlife noises in the Clubhouse, LEGO pits for the kids and plenty of attention to detail. Plus, all the play areas were great for kids to get out and about and take them away from devices. There were a few ‘older’ children there, so it would be nice if the entertainment was also aimed at them somehow.

Trying to order drinks at the bar became a running joke as the service was very slow and confusing. All of these are hopefully teething issues and certainly not something that should stop you from staying, especially as I live in the hope that these issues won’t be a problem for everyone. I wanted to be honest about our stay.
